About Beverly
My name is Beverly Glass and I own the Frog Hollow Flower Farm in Placerville CA. I believe my love of gardening started with me at a very young age and I am thankful to have taken what was once a family garden and turned it into the farm it is today. When we bought our house, my husband said I’m going to build you a beautiful garden, and that he did. He worked our land to remove all of the manzanita, hauled in dirt, built planter beds, added irrigation, and built me a beautiful greenhouse. My daughter and I painted each planter box a different color and planned and planted our veggies and flowers beds together. I cherish those special memories and haven’t changed our original garden space because of it. What I soon realized is that our garden slowly came to life, and it transformed into a habitat for more birds and animals than I could have ever imagined.
About the farm
Frog Hollow Flower Farm was officially founded in 2021, born from a deep love for flowers and a passion for sharing them. I took several online courses, met with other flower farmers and decided to take the plunge. That fall I asked my sister if I could plant some snapdragons and scabiosa in her yard because I had already planted my yard to full capacity. She graciously said of course because we do love gardening together so that Spring when I was harvesting armfuls of gorgeous orange snapdragons and armfuls of black night scabiosa and every color in between and my sister said,” Hey there's something to this and I want to be a flower farmer with you.” She took the same courses I did, and we had a blast learning and understanding that farming IS different than gardening.
We quickly realized that we had an advantage working together and living so close together because my elevation is above the snow line her elevation is just below the snow line. What we discovered is that if we plant the same plants on both of our farms hers will get ready first and the exact same plant will get ready 2 to 4 weeks after hers on my farm. This allows us to extend our growing season and that has been amazing. I realized that I became a true farmer when I had to use a sickle to harvest my armfuls of flowers. Now 3 growing seasons later the Frog Hollow Flower Farm has grown into a specialty cut flower farm that is open from April to November (weather permitting). I offer bouquet subscriptions to my customers starting in early spring. My specialty cut flowers are sold wholesale local florist, countless local wedding designers, and both high school FFA floral programs at Union Mine and Ponderosa. Now I'm excited to be invited to have my flowers available at The Placerville Food Co-Op. I hope you enjoy your local farm fresh flowers as much as I enjoy growing them.
